Shipping and Chartering
Shipping and chartering are integral parts of our trading operations. We manage voyage and time-charter requirements to optimise freight exposure, strengthen supply-chain resilience and retain flexibility in changing market conditions.
Shipping and chartering are integral to Meridian Energy’s trading operations. By managing freight alongside the underlying commodity transaction, we can coordinate delivery schedules, manage freight exposure and retain commercial flexibility as market conditions change.
Freight control across the trading lifecycle
Our chartering team works closely with traders, operators, shipowners and logistics partners. This collaboration connects the commercial terms of a trade with the practical requirements of moving a cargo safely, securely and on time.
Meridian Energy manages voyage and time-charter requirements and has experience with contracts of affreightment and Aframax vessels under time charter. These capabilities help protect supply-chain resilience and allow the team to respond to different cargo sizes, routes and delivery windows.

What our chartering team coordinates
- Freight strategy: We assess voyage, time-charter and contract structures against the requirements of the underlying trade.
- Delivery planning: Vessel availability, laycans, routes and discharge schedules are coordinated with customer and supplier requirements.
- Operational communication: Traders, operators, shipowners and logistics providers stay aligned through the cargo movement.
- Market flexibility: Freight and storage options can help the business respond when prices, rates or delivery conditions change.
- Responsible operations: Counterparty compliance, product traceability and International Maritime Organization requirements form part of our responsible trading approach.
Storage and asset optionality
Meridian Energy maintains access to strategically located onshore and floating storage solutions. Our experience includes the former ownership of the VLCC MT Meridian Ace, which was deployed as floating storage to support trading activities, blending operations and inventory positioning before its successful divestment. This experience strengthened our understanding of large-vessel operations, storage optionality and asset value across changing freight markets.
